What yoga poses help with posture and confidence?

Mister.Yoga — Posture & Self-Confidence

Giada

Hi everyone 🌿 I started doing yoga at home a few months ago (mostly short YouTube flows), and I realized my posture is… not great. I work at a laptop all day, shoulders roll forward, neck sticks out, and I feel like it also affects my confidence when I walk into a room.

I’m not looking for super advanced poses, just a few reliable yoga poses for posture and confidence that I can repeat daily. If you have cues (like where I should feel the work) and breathing tips, I’d love that too. Also, any advice on how to avoid straining my lower back would be appreciated. Thanks 💜

Ananda

Dear Giada, posture and confidence are deeply linked to prana (life energy) moving freely through the spine. When the chest collapses, the breath becomes shallow and the mind feels smaller.

For a gentle daily practice, try: Tadasana (Mountain) to feel grounded; Bhujangasana (Cobra) or a soft Sphinx to open the heart; Setu Bandhasana (Bridge) to awaken the back body; and Balasana (Child’s Pose) to soften the nervous system.

Breathe slowly through the nose, lengthen the exhale, and imagine energy rising from Muladhara (root) up to Anahata (heart). Confidence often returns when the heart space opens without force. If pain appears, back off and practice with patience.

Ok bestie, posture + confidence is SUCH a glow-up combo 😌✨

My go-to “stand taller” mini set:

- Mountain Pose: feet grounded, crown up, ribs chill (don’t flare).

- Cat-Cow: wake up the spine + reset desk-hunch.

- Locust (or baby locust): arms by sides, lift chest a lil = strong back vibes.

- Warrior II + Reverse Warrior: instant “I own the room” energy.

Breath tip: inhale = expand collarbones, exhale = soften shoulders down/back. Keep it 5–8 min daily and you’ll feel different in like a week. If low back feels pinchy, reduce backbend + tuck tailbone slightly.

Sergio

Posture is alignment. Confidence follows.

Do these. Correctly.

1) Tadasana. Tripod foot. Knees unlocked. Pelvis neutral. Ribs stacked.

2) Bhujangasana. Pubic bone heavy. Lift from thoracic spine. No neck crunch.

3) Salabhasana. Lengthen legs. Inner thighs active. Shoulder blades down.

4) Adho Mukha Svanasana. Press floor. Long spine. No collapsed shoulders.

Breathe through the nose. Slow. If you feel low back compression, you are overextending. Reduce range.

Oh Giada, I hear you 💜 Posture changes so much when we’re stressed and tired. Yin yoga can help you “melt” the tight areas that pull you forward. 😊

Sweet yin options:

- Supported Fish (with a pillow/bolster) to gently open chest 😌

- Puppy Pose (soft version) for shoulders 🧡

- Sphinx (yin style) for a calm backbend 🌿

- Legs up the wall to reset the nervous system ✨

Stay 2–4 minutes, breathe slowly, and listen inside. Confidence sometimes grows from feeling safe in your body. If anything feels sharp or scary, come out and be kind to yourself 🤗

Riky

“Posture and confidence” aka “I watched an influencer do Camel Pose in a bikini and now I want main character energy” 😂

Real yoga isn’t posing for Instagram. It’s boring basics done consistently.

Do: Mountain, Plank (proper), Locust, Bridge. Strengthen your upper back and stop living in “phone neck.”

And please don’t crank your lower back because some creator said “open your heart” 😭

Vale

Following because SAME 😭🙏 I’m super stiff and I feel embarrassed in class when they say “roll shoulders back” and mine just… don’t?

Question: for Cobra/Bridge, how do you breathe without holding your breath? Also do I need a thick mat for knees? Mine hurts in tabletop 😅 And like… is it normal to shake in Plank??

Neo

From a performance angle: better posture = better breathing mechanics + likely better sleep quality (less tension), which can indirectly support confidence.

High ROI protocol (10 min):

- Thoracic opener: Puppy or supported Fish (2 min)

- Posterior chain: Locust variations (3 sets, controlled)

- Scapular control: Down Dog + “push the floor away” (2 min)

- Finish with nasal breathing 4-6 breaths/min for HRV upshift (2–3 min)

Track it: morning HRV, resting HR, and subjective confidence/energy. If low back feels tweaky, reduce lumbar extension and focus on thoracic extension + glute engagement. Not medical advice—if you’ve got pain patterns, a physio is worth it.

Lalla

Giadaaaa posture + confidence is literally your aura sitting upright 🥺💗✨

Try: Mountain Pose like you’re a crystal tower 🩷, Heart-opening Fish Pose (supported!!) like “hello universe,” and Warrior II when you need that “I am protected by my vibes” energy 🌙

Also I swear on full moon days my chest opens easier?? maybe placebo but manifestation is real 😂🔮 Breathe in sparkles, breathe out doubt. (Gently tho, don’t hurt your back!)

Brando

Hot yoga fixed my posture more than anything because you can actually move once you’re drenched 😅 Heat + repetition = results.

For posture/confidence: Chair Pose (legs on fire, mind gets tough), Warrior series, Locust, and Camel (only if you’re ready). You learn to keep your chest lifted even when you want to quit. That carries into daily life.

Hydrate, don’t force backbends, and if you feel dizzy step out. The “confidence” part is basically training mental endurance in the room.

Cami

Hi Giada 💜 If you’re pregnant (now or in the future), posture work is still possible, just with extra care. 😊

Gentle confidence + posture poses I love for prenatal bodies:

- Mountain at the wall (support = safer alignment)

- Cat-Cow + Thread-the-Needle (very soothing for shoulders)

- Supported Bridge (with a block/bolster) instead of strong backbends

- Side-lying Savasana + calm belly breathing 😌

Avoid intense backbends or deep twists if pregnant, and always check with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns. Slow, kind breaths are powerful ✨

Oreste

Posture isn’t just muscles. It’s frequency. When the spine collapses, your signal gets weaker. They want you bent over screens.

Do spinal alignment poses (Mountain, Cobra, Bridge) but more importantly: breathe like you’re tuning an antenna. Slow nasal breathing. Focus between the brows. Third eye activation brings natural confidence because you stop seeking external validation.

Ancient practices knew this before modern “wellness” monetized it. Stay aware.

Zenio

Stand.

Breathe.

Soften the shoulders.

Let the heart be wide.

Confidence is quiet.

Dado

As a former CrossFit-only dude 😅 yoga for posture was a game changer.

What helped my “rounded shoulders + tight chest”:

- Puppy Pose + thoracic extensions (open upper back)

- Locust / Superman holds (strengthen mid-back)

- Low Lunge with reach (hip flexors get wrecked from sitting)

- Wall Angels (not yoga-y but works)

Cue: if you feel backbends in low back only, you’re cheating. Brace ribs, squeeze glutes a bit, and aim the opening into the upper spine. Great for confidence too because you literally take up more space.

Elisa

Posture is the ultimate “invisible accessory” 💜✨ A few poses + a nice setup makes it easier to stay consistent.

My aesthetic-but-effective picks:

- Mountain at the mirror (alignment check)

- Warrior I/II for that tall, elegant line

- Supported Fish on a bolster (soooo good after laptop time)

Also: a grippy mat and a block help a lot (I love a neutral-toned premium mat because it makes me actually want to practice 😅). And yes, matching leggings somehow makes me stand taller 😂

Kiran

For posture and confidence, we work with the spine (sushumna nadi) and the heart center.

A gentle Kundalini-inspired sequence:

- Easy Seat: long spine, chin slightly tucked (jalandhara bhanda lightly)

- Breath of Fire (only if it feels comfortable; otherwise long deep breathing)

- Cat-Cow to awaken the spinal energy

- Cobra with mantra: silently “Sat” on inhale, “Nam” on exhale

- Finish in stillness, hands at heart, feeling Anahata expand

Move with reverence. If Breath of Fire causes dizziness or anxiety, stop and return to slow nasal breathing.

Pippo

My posture improved because yoga taught me two things:

1) My shoulders have been living in my ears since 2012.

2) “Confidence” is holding Warrior II while your legs scream and you pretend it’s fine 😭😂

Do Mountain + Cat-Cow + Locust. Then walk around your house like a majestic flamingo for 10 seconds. Works. Science.

Nadia

Giada, you can absolutely work on posture and confidence in a very gentle way, even using a chair. 😊

Try this simple chair sequence:

- Sit tall, feet flat, hands on thighs: inhale lengthen, exhale relax shoulders

- Seated Cat-Cow: small movements, slow breath

- Seated chest opener: hands behind back or hold a strap, lift breastbone gently

- Seated twist (very mild): keep hips facing forward

- Stand behind the chair for support: mini Mountain pose, feel steady

If you ever feel pain, stop and adjust. A few minutes daily can make you feel more upright and calm.

Rosa

Posture and confidence also reflect your inner balance (doshas) and digestion—when we’re depleted or tense, we collapse forward.

Along with heart-opening poses like Sphinx/Supported Fish and strengthening like Locust, consider supporting your routine with grounding habits:

- Warm ginger or cumin-fennel-coriander tea after meals (gentle, traditional)

- A few slow breaths before practice to settle Vata (restless energy)

- Practice in the morning with a light stomach

Nothing extreme—just steady rituals. If you feel persistent pain or dizziness, check with a professional.

Teo

Ok but like… how fast can I fix posture and get that “confident chest open” look?? 😤🔥

If I do Cobra + Bridge every day, will I get flexible in 2 weeks?? Also any hacks for faster shoulder opening?? I’m trying to level up QUICK 😅

Iri

Giada, I relate so much. When my anxiety was high, my body literally curled inward like I was trying to disappear.

What helped my posture + confidence (gently):

- Mountain pose with one hand on heart (feels safe) 🌿

- Child’s pose to calm down first 🥺

- Then a little Sphinx or supported Fish, just enough to breathe into the chest

The biggest change was noticing my breath. When I exhale slowly, my shoulders drop and I feel less “watched.” Small steps are still real progress 🤍

Paolo

In the Yoga Sutras, asana is described as “sthira sukham” — steady and easeful. Posture, in that sense, is not a performance but a cultivated relationship with steadiness.

Practically, poses like Tadasana (steadiness), Virabhadrasana (courage/intent), and gentle backbends (openness) can be used as laboratories for the mind. When you hold a shape with soft breath, you train equanimity.

Confidence can arise as a byproduct of practice: less reactivity, more presence. The Bhagavad Gita repeatedly points toward acting from inner alignment rather than outer approval.

BaliMax

Giada you need a simple morning flow, like the ones I did in Bali on retreat 😍🌴 It change my posture sooo fast.

Do: Sun Salutation (slow), Warrior II, Reverse Warrior, Bridge, then 5 min breathwork. Also digital detox help a lot, because your neck is always down on the phone.

I swear after 7 days you will feel more confidente and more open in your chest, just keep it consistant ✨

Enzo

Which outcomes do you mean by “posture” and “confidence”?

For posture: are we talking thoracic kyphosis, forward head posture, rounded shoulders?

For evidence: I’d look for RCTs on yoga for chronic neck/upper back pain and posture-related measures. Confidence is harder: usually self-efficacy or anxiety scales.

Anecdotes are fine, but if anyone has studies, link them.

Fede

If you ever get the chance: aerial yoga is AMAZING for posture 😍🪽

The hammock supports you so you can open the chest without dumping into the low back. Stuff like supported backbends, hanging shoulder decompression, and even an inverted “bat” variation can make you feel soooo tall after.

It also weirdly boosts confidence because you feel brave for trying something new 😅 Just make sure the studio is legit and the teacher is attentive.

Sara

Giada, you’re absolutely not alone 💜🤗 So many of us hold stress in the shoulders and it shows up as posture and self-confidence.

A gentle daily trio you can trust:

- Cat-Cow (1–2 min) to reset your spine 🫶

- Locust (a few short holds) to build supportive back strength 🌿

- Supported Fish or chest opener at the wall to soften the front body ✨

And please remember: confidence isn’t only “standing tall,” it’s also being kind to yourself on the days your body feels tired. If your low back feels strained or you have ongoing pain, getting guidance from a qualified teacher or physio can be so helpful 🥺💜
