I keep hearing teachers say “yoga is for body awareness,” but I’m not sure what that actually means beyond stretching. I’m 29, I work at a desk all day, and I feel like I’m kind of disconnected from my body (tight shoulders, jaw clenching, weird posture in photos). When I try yoga on YouTube I’m mostly thinking “am I doing this right?” and I don’t really *feel* anything except strain.
So what is yoga for body awareness supposed to do? Is it like learning to notice muscles? Breathing? Emotions? And how would a normal beginner practice it without getting obsessed with perfect poses?
