I keep seeing “yin yoga” on class schedules and YouTube, but I’m honestly not sure what it really is. Is it just slow stretching with relaxing music, or is there an actual method behind it?
For context: I do some beginner vinyasa and occasional hatha. I’m not super flexible, and when I’m stressed I tend to clench my jaw/shoulders without noticing. I tried one yin class once and it felt almost too still… but also weirdly intense in the hips.
So what is yin yoga exactly, what’s the goal, and how should it feel if you’re doing it right? Also: any tips for beginners so I don’t overdo it?
