Hi everyone, I’m new-ish to Kundalini Yoga and I keep hearing teachers say things like “breath is the steering wheel” or “the breath moves the energy.” In class we do Breath of Fire, long deep breathing, sometimes breath holds, and I’m honestly not sure what I’m supposed to be feeling.
I’ve practiced vinyasa on/off, so I’m used to breathing to support movement. But Kundalini feels different—more like the breath is the main practice, not just a support. Sometimes I feel calm and focused, other times I get lightheaded or a little anxious (especially with fast breathing).
So… what is the role of breath in Kundalini Yoga, like in practical terms? Is it about chakras/energy, nervous system, concentration, or all of it? And how do you do it safely without forcing anything? Thanks 💜
