I keep hearing people say “yoga is basically stretching,” and I’m honestly confused. I started doing short YouTube sessions at home because my back and hips feel stiff from sitting all day. Some days I just hold hamstring stretches, other days I follow a yoga flow with breathing cues and a few poses. They feel similar in my body, but also… not?
Is yoga actually different from stretching, or is it just stretching with a nicer vibe and names for poses? I’m not trying to become super bendy, I just want to feel less tight and calmer. Also: does it matter if I’m doing it “wrong” if my goal is mostly stress relief + mobility? Would love a clear explanation (like real-life examples) of what yoga adds beyond stretching.
