Hi everyone 💜 I keep seeing the term “conscious breathing yoga” in classes and online, but I’m not sure what it actually means. Is it just pranayama? Or is it a type of yoga class where you move less and focus more on breath?
For context: I’m not super advanced. I do a couple beginner flows per week and I notice that when the teacher reminds us to “breathe consciously,” I either hold my breath during effort or breathe too fast. I’d like to understand what conscious breathing yoga is supposed to feel like, what the goal is (relaxation? energy? focus?), and if there are simple ways to practice it at home without doing anything weird or unsafe.
Any clear explanation would be appreciated—especially how it fits into a normal yoga practice 🙏
