I’ve been doing yoga on and off for a couple years (mostly vinyasa at home), and I’m thinking about trying a kundalini yoga class near me. But I’m honestly unsure what I’m signing up for.
Online, some people describe kundalini as super spiritual—chakras, energy awakening, mantras, even like “life-changing” experiences. Others say it’s just breathwork + movement with a different vibe. I’m not religious and I don’t want to feel like I joined a cult… but I’m also not against spirituality if it’s more like self-awareness and mind-body connection.
So, in real life: how spiritual is kundalini yoga really? Is it possible to practice it in a grounded way without buying into everything? And are there red flags to watch for in teachers/classes?
Would love to hear your experiences (especially if you’ve tried both classic yoga styles and kundalini).
