How many times a week should I do yoga?

Mister.Yoga — Practice & Routines

Lia

Hi everyone 💜 I’m pretty new to yoga (about 6 weeks in) and I’m trying to figure out how many times a week I should do yoga to actually feel progress without burning out.

Right now I do 2 classes a week (mostly vinyasa) and sometimes a short YouTube stretch on Sundays. I work at a desk all day and my shoulders + hips feel stiff, and I also want yoga for stress/anxiety after work. I’m not trying to “become a pretzel,” just feel stronger, calmer, and less tight.

Is 2x/week enough? Is it better to do 10–20 minutes daily? And do you take rest days from yoga like you would with gym workouts? I’d love to hear what worked for you and what a realistic weekly routine looks like.

Arjun

The “right” number is the one that keeps your breath smooth and your mind steady. For many people, 3–5 gentle sessions a week creates a beautiful rhythm, but even 2 sessions can be enough if you practice with presence.

If your goal is calm + less stiffness, consider adding a short daily practice: 10–15 minutes of pranayama (easy nasal breathing), a few sun salutations, and a closing rest. When the breath flows, the energy (prana) flows; the chakras are not “forced open,” they are softened by consistency.

Rest days are not failure. Some days your practice can be simply seated breathing and a quiet savasana. Listen for balance: effort without strain.

Mavi

Honestly 2x/week is a solid start!! If you want faster “feel-good” results, sprinkle in short daily stuff. Like 10–20 mins most days = chef’s kiss for stress + desk-body.

My fave realistic week:

- 2 longer classes (your vinyasa)

- 2 short “mobility + hips/shoulders” flows (15 min)

- 1 chill day: yin or just legs-up-the-wall

Rest days? Yes, but yoga can be active OR restorative. Just match the vibe to your energy. Self-care glow up, not punishment 😌✨

Two times per week is maintenance.

Three times per week is progress.

Five times per week is discipline.

Do not chase quantity. Chase correct alignment.

If you do 20 minutes daily, keep it simple: standing poses, hip openers, twists, then relaxation.

Breathe through the nose. Slow exhale.

One rest day per week. No ego.

Rosa

Tesoro, 2x/week is already lovely 🌸 but if you’re stiff from desk work and stressed, I’d add a little “quiet yoga” at home too 🕯️💞

Even 10 minutes of yin (butterfly, gentle dragon, supported child’s pose) a few evenings a week can change everything for your nervous system 😌✨

I like:

- 2 classes

- 2–3 short yin sessions

- 1 day just breathing/meditation

And yes, rest is part of practice 💗 listen to your body, not the calendar 🤗

Do it as many times as you want, as long as you’re not doing “yoga” as in: one photo in warrior II + 47 stories about your matcha enlightenment 😏📸

Real yoga? Consistency, boring basics, breathing when it’s uncomfortable. 2x/week is fine. Daily 10 minutes is better than a once-a-week influencer marathon.

Also rest days exist. Your hamstrings don’t care about your aesthetic playlist.

Tina

Following because SAME 😭💜 I started like 3 weeks ago and I can’t even touch my toes lol. If I do yoga 3 days in a row my wrists feel tired… is that normal? 😅

Also dumb question: do you guys use thick mats?? Mine is super thin and I feel embarrassed in class when I’m shaky 🥲 And breathing… am I supposed to breathe only through the nose the whole time? 🙈

Nico

From a performance/longevity lens: frequency depends on load. Treat yoga like “movement nutrition.”

Baseline that works for most: 20–30 min, 4–6 days/week, mostly low to moderate intensity, plus 1–2 higher intensity sessions IF recovery is good.

Metrics I’d watch: sleep quality, morning HRV/trend, resting HR, soreness, mood. If hot vinyasa crushes your sleep or HRV, swap one day for yin/breathwork.

Also: yoga before bed + nasal breathing can support downshifting. Not claiming magic testosterone boosts, but better recovery habits usually help performance indirectly.

Kiki

okieeee so like… the answer is: what does ur aura want?? 💗🌙✨

I do yoga 4x/week BUT I match it to moon vibes: new moon = slow stretchy yin, full moon = spicy flow + manifestation journaling 😭🔮

If u want progress, try lil daily rituals (10 min counts!!) and end with hands on heart like “ty body ily” 🥺💞 also put rose quartz near ur mat for ✨soft energy✨

Dario

If you’re talking hot yoga specifically, I’d say 3–4x/week is a sweet spot for adaptation without wrecking yourself. The heat hits hydration, sleep, and recovery.

2x/week is fine, but you’ll feel the “mental endurance” benefits more at 3x. Just don’t go max effort every time—some sessions are about breathing through the chaos, not “winning.”

And please don’t treat it like a detox guarantee. You’ll sweat a ton, sure. Rehydrate and take an easier day when you need it.

Sara

If anyone reading this is pregnant (or newly postpartum), the “how many times a week” question changes a bit 💛🤰

Often, 2–4 gentle sessions per week can be wonderful, especially if you include breathwork and relaxation. Short daily practices (5–15 minutes) can be even better than long intense classes.

But please check with your healthcare provider and choose prenatal-specific guidance—certain shapes and intensity aren’t appropriate for everyone. And always prioritize comfort, steady breathing, and zero strain 🫶✨

Omar

You can do it 7 days a week if you understand what yoga really is: a technology for consciousness. The modern world is saturated with hidden frequencies that keep people anxious and disconnected.

So the question isn’t “how many times,” it’s “how often do you clear the signal.” Even 15 minutes daily—breath + stillness—can sharpen the third eye effect people forgot about.

Just be mindful: some studios are more about choreography than awakening. Practice at home sometimes. Silence is the upgrade.

Zen

Once.

With full attention.

Repeat when you forget.

Coming from CrossFit: 2x/week yoga helped, but 3–5x/week made the biggest difference for mobility and recovery 💪😅

I do:

- 2 strength days

- 2 short mobility yoga days (hips/ankles/shoulders)

- 1 longer flow or yin on weekend

Rest days still matter. If you’re sore, do a recovery-style session (longer holds, breathing) instead of smashing vinyasa. Your joints will thank you 🙏

Elia

For a sustainable routine (and honestly a more “luxury calm” vibe ✨), I love 3–4x/week.

Two studio classes + one home session + one gentle stretch day is perfect. If you’re at a desk, a 10-min morning flow is like instant posture polish.

Also, a supportive mat matters more than people admit 😅 A grippy premium mat + comfy leggings makes you want to show up. Consistency is the real aesthetic 💜

Priya

In Kundalinī Yoga we often practice in a cadence: daily sadhana is ideal, but it must be sustainable. Even 11 minutes a day can be transformational if done with devotion.

Try 3–5 days per week of a short kriyā + pranayama + meditation. Focus on the spine (energy channel), then seal with mantra. Simple example: spinal flex + long deep breathing, then Sat Nām meditation.

If you feel overstimulated, ground with slow breath and rest. The awakening of kundalinī is not a race; it is a refinement.

I do yoga 3x/week because that’s exactly how often my body needs to be reminded I’m not a folded beach chair 😭🧘

Daily 10 minutes is great though. Just don’t do what I did and try “advanced hip opener” at 11pm… I walked like a baby giraffe the next day 😂

Lina

A gentle, realistic goal is 2–3 times per week to start, especially if you sit a lot. And you can absolutely practice in shorter sessions.

Even 10 minutes a day of chair yoga—seated twists, ankle circles, shoulder rolls, gentle seated cat-cow—can improve how your body feels without feeling intimidating.

Rest days are fine. The key is regular movement and kind pacing. If anything hurts (sharp pain), stop and ask a qualified teacher for modifications.

Asha

How many times per week depends on your balance. If stress is high and digestion feels “tight,” gentle consistency beats intense bursts.

A lovely approach: 3–4 yoga sessions weekly + a small daily ritual: warm water in the morning, a few rounds of slow breathing, then simple forward folds/twists to support agni (digestive fire).

After evening practice, try calming herbal tea like chamomile or ginger-fennel (if it suits you). Not medical advice—just traditional supportive habits. Let your body tell you what calms it.

Vale

Ok but like… if I want splits FAST how many times a week are we talking?? 😤🔥 I’m doing 4x right now and I’m tempted to go daily.

Is it better to do 20 mins EVERY day vs 3 big sessions?? Also how long until I see real flexibility gains?? I’m impatient 😭🫠

Mina

For anxiety, daily short yoga helped me more than occasional long classes 🌿🫶 I used to do 2 classes/week and still feel “wired.”

Now I do 10–15 minutes most evenings (slow flow + long exhale breathing) and 1–2 longer sessions on weekends. It feels like telling my nervous system “you’re safe” 🥺

Rest days still happen, but even on rest days I’ll do legs-up-the-wall for 5 minutes. No pressure, just softness ✨

Bruno

In the Yoga Sūtras, practice (abhyāsa) becomes steady when it is done for a long time, without interruption, with sincere attention. That points less to a perfect weekly number and more to consistency.

Practically: 2x/week can be a good foundation, but adding brief daily elements—breath, mindful movement, or meditation—often makes the practice “stick” in your life.

Also remember: āsana is one limb. If 10 minutes of sitting quietly changes your day, that is yoga too.

Leo

I’d say 4-5 times a week is the vibe, even if some days it’s only 12 min. When I was in Bali on retreat I did yoga everyday and like my whole life changed, no joke 😅

Try a simple morning routine: wake, water, sunlight, 15 min flow, then journaling. You will feel more aligned and calm, its crazy.

Also take 1 rest day so your body can reset, and dont feel bad if you skip sometimes 🙏

Chiara

Two times per week can help. Daily short sessions may help more. Depends on adherence.

Any evidence for “best frequency”? Studies vary. Many use 2–3 sessions/week for 8–12 weeks.

If your goal is stress and mobility: pick a schedule you can maintain. Track sleep, mood, pain. Adjust.

If pain persists. See a professional.

Nina

If you ever get bored of regular yoga, aerial is SUCH a fun add-on 😍🩷 The hammock helps decompress the spine and makes backbends feel safer (with a good instructor).

Frequency-wise, I do 1 aerial class + 2 regular/yin sessions per week. If I do aerial too many days in a row my grip/shoulders get tired 😅

So maybe: 2 studio classes + 1 playful session + 1 recovery day. Floating counts as self-care! ✨

Eli

Lia, you’re already doing great 🫶💜 The fact you’re thinking about sustainability (not burnout) is such a healthy mindset.

2x/week is enough to benefit, and if you want more calm and less stiffness, adding tiny “micro-practices” can be so supportive: 5–15 minutes after work, a few days a week, no pressure 🥹✨

And yes: rest days are allowed and needed. Some days yoga is movement, some days it’s breathing and being kind to yourself. You belong here, wherever you are in the journey 🤍🌸
