Hi everyone, I’m new here and I’m trying to be careful with how I ask this. I’ve been dealing with emotional trauma from some past situations, and therapy is already part of my plan, but I still feel like my body is stuck in “alert mode” a lot of the time (tight chest, shallow breathing, trouble sleeping, random tears).
I keep hearing that yoga can help with emotional trauma recovery because it connects the mind and body, but I also worry about getting overwhelmed in class or feeling triggered when we do deep stretches or long stillness. I’m not looking for a miracle cure—just something gentle that might help me feel safer inside my body.
Has yoga helped you with emotional trauma recovery? If yes, what styles or practices felt supportive (yin, hatha, restorative, breathwork)? And if you’ve had moments where yoga made things feel intense, how did you handle that? Any tips for starting in a way that feels safe would mean a lot.
